Jesus Teaches with Parables
As published in our October 9th bulletin
When Jesus apostles came to him and asked “Why do you speak to the people in parables?” He replied, “The knowledge of the secrets of the kingdom of heaven has been given to you, but not to them. Whoever has will be given more, and he will have an abundance. Whoever does not have, even what he has will be taken from him.” … “Though seeing, they do not see; though hearing, they do not hear or understand.” (Matt 13:10-13)
Although many understood the basic illustrations, they did not get the spiritual significance of what Jesus was saying to them. When speaking in parables, Jesus was not hiding truth from sincere seekers because those who were receptive to spiritual truth understood the illustrations. Further, as his apostles accepted these truths, they were given even more truths, truths that had not even been revealed to the prophets.
For us today, parables provide an easy way for us to remember and relate to Jesus teachings. We can study the scriptures and learn very concise lessons that are timeless in application for our lives. Come study with us on Wednesday evenings the Parables of Jesus along with other classes that will help you grow in Christ.
